public education

Education is a public good. We want kids to understand the world around them, both the physical world and the social world. We want them to be workplace-ready or college-ready in technical, leadership, and interpersonal skills when they graduate. Because of this, we support free education for all, and resist efforts to privatize education. We endorse public school board members who share these values.

Bodily autonomy

Personal freedom is a core principle of democracy. The success of Prop 3 enshrined reproductive rights in our state constitution. Access to quality healthcare is an essential part of reproductive health. We support Planned Parenthood as an important provider of women’s health in rural areas.

Fair Wages

We support the principle of collective bargaining, where working people, through their unions, negotiate their wages and benefits with their employers. Unions increase wages and benefits, which bring more money to the community. The erosion of collective bargaining has suppressed wages in our economy. We support local unions and value their protection of workers’ rights.

Responsive and Responsible governance

We believe in supporting proactive, effective city and county policies aimed at benefitting all. We support enhanced recreational facilities, professional and fair law enforcement, better roads, water and sewer infrastructure, and planning and zoning policies.

Voting Access

One person, one vote is the bedrock of representative democracy. The success of Citizens not Voters to create a citizens redistricting committee ensured that our local districts are fairly drawn, not gerrymandered. The 2022 success of Prop 2 to expand voting access shows that citizens want it to be easy to register to vote and vote absentee ballots. This ensures all our residents can “get to the polls” through our mailboxes, without missing work or needing a ride.

environmental stewardship

We are clear-eyed about the future, and it’s not looking great. We can see changes to our environment growing with every season. Our local farmers are impacted. Tourism and recreation are impacted. We need to ensure our parks, fields, and waterways are protected. We supported the new water treatment plant upstream on the Chippewa to ensure E. coli levels are at safe levels.
